Jo Brière

Date of birth : 1960

Country : france

French painter.

After studying at the National Fine Arts School in Paris, in 1979 Brière received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture. One of her paintings was then bought in 1980 by the National Fund for Contemporary Art. She continued to make art outside the usual network of art galleries.

Her paining is very colourful and demonstrates great detail. The technique is reminiscent of stained glass windows: a limited number of bold colours woven into a mesh that holds them together. The almost obsessive repetition of patterns, some figurative, making reference to certain paintings such as Velasquez Las Meninas, or the profile of Lorenzo de Medici, together make up a busy space in which the eye wanders about and often gets lost.
