Norma Hecker
Date of birth : 1930
Norma Hecker began as a painter but soon started making tapestries. After studying the history of art and painting in America and Germany, she moved to the south of France in 1968. In 1968-1969 she worked as a weaver in Paris while painting in her spare time, and in 1975, began creating and weaving her own tapestries.
Zaragossa III is representative of her work in textiles. The long shapes and curves undulate like seaweed, overlapping like the layers that make up the earth's surface. For this unique example, the wool, woven by the artist herself, was specially coloured and spun in the south (Hérault)
