As a painter, film-maker, and star of the media, Andy Warhol embodies New York of the 1960s-1980s and Pop Art. In 1960 he produced his first work based on comic strips and his Coca Cola series. His works include visual images from popular culture, like the serial repetition of a photo enlarged to an unusual scale using screen processing and other techniques.
Andy Warhol used images, like the face of Marilyn Monroe and other stars, and brought them back into circulation after having reworked them with bold colours. The flat and depthless images pose the question of values and meaning in emblematic images of our consumer society.
