Lives and works in Berlin, Madrid, Prague, Sao Paolo and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
German painter, designer and sculpter. Dokoupil studied Fine Arts in Cologne, Frankfurt and New York in the 70s. In the early 80s he founded the German neo-expressionist group Mülheimer Freiheit with Walter Dahn and four other artists. The group's artistic proposals, which coincided with similar ideas in the US and Italy, were enthusiastically received by the critics and led to one of the most influential movements on the international art scene in the 80s. Since 1983 Dokoupil has taught at the Art Academies of Dusseldorf, Madrid and Kassel. Exihibitions dedicated to Dokoupil are organised in the most prestigious museums and art institutions worldwide. His works can be found in the collections of the Berlin Nationalgalerie, the Neues Museum in Weimar, the National Museum of Modern Art at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Boymans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid and various other collections.
