Born in 1964, in Saint-Etienne, in France, Jean-Michel Othoniel lives and works in Paris. He has made working with glass his hallmark.
In 2011, an important exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou, in Paris, traces his artistic development and explores the multitude of techniques he has employed. This exhibition, titled “My Way”, is later shown at the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art/Plateau in Seoul, the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, the Macau Museum of Art in Macau and the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
Jean-Michel Othoniel's works are showcased in the finest contemporary art museums around the world. He is represented by Galerie Perrotin (New York, Paris and Hong Kong), Galerie Karsten Greve (Cologne and Saint-Moritz) and Kukje Gallery (Seoul).
He is regularly invited to create site-specific works that interact with historical sites and the architecture of today. In 2015, his latest works will be displayed in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles.
