Jens Wolf uses black and white colours on plywood to create one, two or three simple geometric shapes. The plywood, which is left in its natural state and is sometimes accidentally damaged (corner broken, damaged edge), is what gives Wolf's work its visual characteristics: surface feel, warmth of tone, presence of growth rings and other features which reflect its natural state.
Pure circles, rings, lines and vanishing points convey the artist's abstract language. Meticulously formed, they represent ideas and create a smooth surface with clear borders into which Jens Wolf adds error and imperfection. Brought under control, cracks, stains and other deliberate deformities place the work in a future context: when accident becomes form.
