C7497 is the
identification number of a Fuji Provia film used by Lucas Leglise during a trip
in Siberia. It is here printed in its totality and at its actual size. The
metal mechanism of the camera in which the film was got frozen by the cold,
overexposing nine photographs taken outside – next to Lake Baikal, near Irkutsk
– but normally showing the only image taken inside the Trans-Siberian train
where the camera was protected by the surrounding heat. The cold, slowing down
the shutter’s motion, was a gateway for the world to imprint itself on the
photograph differently than with representation. “If the train allows us to
gaze at the landscape going by around us, are we limited to look at the film of
the world individually, or is it possible to inhabit a journey?” questions the
artist.
