In the summer of 2014, James Welling started to choreograph and photograph art students at the University of California in Los Angeles. Next, he used Photoshop to apply RGB colour layers onto the black and white photographs, which he had in the meantime placed on top of pictures of architecture and landscapes in order to create complex images.
The Choreograph project (2014-2015) enriches an exploration of three-colour printing with the surprising presence of the human form in the artist’s work.
