L’Attente (Waiting) epitomizes the themes dear to the artist: here, Parisian public
transportation, a place of transition and inspiration, appears like an
ambiguous in-between. The light, crucial in Bilal Hamdad’s work, shows the
passage; from darkness to clarity and from artificial light to daylight. The
triviality of these often deserted places is transformed by the presence of a
character who makes the moment unique, spontaneous. Frozen, he embodies the
perpetual humdrum of routine, waiting, a snapshot of our time: both continuity
and transition at the same time.
