Oil stick, acrylic, oil and gesso on raw cotton canvas
In Lemon Sky and her other
paintings, Gabriele Herzog explores positive and negative space through the
contrast between subtle and bold applications of paint. Areas of quiet and
neutrality are juxtaposed with intensely dynamic elements.
According to Sascha Gianella, Gabriele
Herzog’s shapes, “even if geometrical, are organic and amorphous, and seem to
float and vibrate with a serene subtlety and a dramatic effect. Aiming to
express the essential, Gabriele applies very little material on the canvas and
uses combinations of paintings and thoughts that through her brush, keep her
works in precarious balance.”
