Pertti Kekarianen's "Tila" series represents shadows of the relationships between individuals. In the Finnish language, the word tila is used loosely to define locality, state or position. It can be translated into English as "space", "place", "area", "room" or "state of mind", among other meanings. It was this variety of meanings that inspired Kekarainen's latest series of photographs. Using only mechanical equipment and no digital manipulation of the images, he dots his photographs with coloured spots. These elements symbolise the ideas and dialogue that exist between individual and object, forming a trace of their interaction. Kekarainen plays with juxtapositions, with the transparency and opaqueness of materials to create colourful abstract compositions.
