An award to support the British art scene

An award to support the British art scene

Launched in 2019, the Kleinwort Hambros Emerging Artist Prize aims to support rising talent in contemporary art across the UK. In keeping with its original aim—to acknowledge and celebrate artists who have been active on the art scene—, the Prize will this year reward three artists rather than one in recognition of the trying economic and social circumstances.

Mouhammed Choukeir, CEO of Kleinwort Hambros, commented: “Along with our parent company, Société Générale, who has been an active patron of Contemporary Art for over 25 years, we recognise the importance of supporting up and coming artists, particularly during these challenging times. We’re proud that the Emerging Art Prize is the only award from a UK private bank to highlight young contemporary artists across the UK regions.”

The fifteen candidates are British nationals or UK based, 35 years-old or under, and with a body of work that shows significant originality and coherence. They will be nominated by five talented curators from institutions across the UK.

These fifteen short-listed artists will then be judged by a prestigious panel comprising Sarah Brown (Leeds Art Gallery), Andrew Nairne (University of Cambridge), Melanie Keen (Wellcome Collection, London), Fiona Bradley (Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburg), and Aurélie Deplus (Société Générale).

The jury will choose the three winners, who will then be announced in April.
