Great figure of the lyrical abstraction in France, Jean Degottex has asserted himself since the 50s with paintings which favoured the sign and the impulse of the gesture. Inspired by the masters of far-eastern calligraphy and steeped in zen philosophy, his art combines disciplin and the immediacy of the gesture.
